Description Jose daLuz 2006-01-13 19:19:24 UTC
After compiling liferea-1.0-r1 against firefox 1.5 (and unsetting MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME so liferea doesn't segfault per #118700) there's a minor display bug: the main pane which normally starts with the "Liferea - Linux Feed Reader/Welcome to Liferea" message is blank. Moving any window in front of it and moving Liferea back to the top does not update this pane so whatever was in front of this pane still displays within it. This behavior contintues until you click on that pane, which causes the welcome screen to appear. From this point on Liferea behaves normally.

I guess that is something that upstream would like to know. Could you please look at their bug tracking system if there's already a similar report and file one if there isn't? Once you've done that please let me know, I'll then close this bug here with a resolution of "Upstream". Thanks!

I just filed 1405935 on Liferea's Sourceforge bug tracker.

I've worked with the developer upstream to try to resolve this, but he has been unable to duplicate this bug. I've updated to 1.0.2 and I still run into it.

Jose, you may want to try this again with liferea-1.0.3 which has just been commited to the tree.
Comment 5 Jose daLuz 2006-02-05 12:41:16 UTC
I've tried 1.0.3 already (in an overlay) -- it doesn't fix this issue.

I wonder if the problem could be on the firefox end instead. When 1.5.0.1 hits portage I'll rebuild liferea against it to see if that solves the problem. It's not major, I can live with it as is, but I would like to help track it down.

Oh well...no difference with firefox-1.5.0.1.

Liferea 1.0.4 is supposed to work better with firefox. From http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=42 : "1.0.4 This release [...] makes web browsing inside of Liferea work better."

Thanks for the heads-up about 1.0.4. I just installed it from an overlay but unfortunately it doesn't eliminate this bug.

FYI, the last I heard from the developer upstream is that he is running on Debian and that Debian doesn't provide a firefox-dev-1.5 package to build against, that everything in Debian is built against Mozilla. So he can't test this against Firefox-1.5 to try to duplicate the problem.

I don't suppose someone at Gentoo World Domination HQ wants to ship him a Gentoo laptop, eh? 8-p
Comment 10 Jose daLuz 2006-05-05 15:35:27 UTC
This is a mozilla bug, not a liferea one. From the developer:

Date: 2006-05-05 18:20
Sender: llando Project Admin
Logged In: YES
user_id=834800

Nathan Conrad got xulrunner to work with Liferea and now I
can reproduce the problem. Both the Debian xul0d bug tracker
and the Mozilla bugtracker list this as a libxul problem in
the visibility attribute.

Happens with Epiphany and Devhelp too. So no problem in
Liferea. I'm closing this bug.

Since this is a Mozilla bug rather than a Liferea one, I'm closing this INVALID.
