looks as if arts plugin or a kio plugin has been installed...have you done that yourself or has that been done by gst-plugins?
I'm sure I emerged neither arts nor kio (-plugins). Anyway here's my systems output regarding the mentioned packages: magic media # emerge -pvD gst-plugins [ebuild U ] media-libs/gst-plugins-0.8.11 [0.8.10] +alsa -debug +esd -oss 0 kB [ebuild U ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.11 [0.8.10] 0 kB [ebuild U ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-esd-0.8.11 [0.8.10] 0 kB magic media # equery d gst-plugins gnome-base/gnome-2.10.2 magic media # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" emerge -pvD media-libs/akode [ebuild N ] media-libs/akode-2.0_rc1 +alsa -flac -jack +mp3 -oss -speex +vorbis 634 kB magic media # emerge -pvD artsplugin-mpg123 [ebuild N ] kde-base/artsplugin-mpg123-3.4.1 -arts -debug -kdeenablefinal (-kdexdeltas) -xinerama 5,417 kB magic media # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" emerge -pvD artsplugin-akode [ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.1-r1 -acl +alsa -arts +cups -debug -doc +jpeg2k -kdeenablefinal -kerberos +openexr +spell +ssl +tiff -xinerama -zeroconf 15,097 kB [ebuild N ] media-libs/akode-2.0_rc1 +alsa -flac -jack +mp3 -oss -speex +vorbis 634 kB [ebuild N ] kde-base/kdemultimedia-arts-3.5.1 -arts -debug -kdeenablefinal (-kdexdeltas) -xinerama 5,373 kB [ebuild N ] kde-base/artsplugin-akode-3.5.1 -arts -debug -kdeenablefinal (-kdexdeltas) -xinerama 0 kB magic media # emerge -pvD arts [ebuild N ] kde-base/arts-3.4.3 +alsa -arts -artswrappersuid -debug +esd +hardened -jack -kdeenablefinal +mp3 -nas +vorbis -xinerama 922 kB magic media # Havent found any packages on packages.gentoo.org when giving 'kio' and 'plugin' as search strings - so I couldn't check for emerged kio stuff. Is it still reproducable?

I tried to use the core file to give some furter informations using this settings: CFLAGS ="-march=athlon64 -O1 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -g -ggdb3" LDFLAGS ="-Wl,-O1" But all I get is this: magic audioconvert # gdb -core core GNU gdb 6.4 Copyright 2005 Free Software Foundation, Inc. I would tone down the CFLAGS for a start, just resetting them locally here may not have the desired effect. Unless you can reliable reproduce this on a normalized system we can't help you here.
I'm not sure if I understand "tone down" and "resetting them locally" right. Do you mean "tone down for the whole system"? I will not recompile the whole system with 'low' CFLAGS! Should I stop report bugs completely - having the recent system - then?
If you think you can use those CFLAGS syswide, then we think the problems that may arise are not our concern. We give you the opportunity to do it, but with it comes the responsibility.
*cough* Up to now noone complained about my syswide CFLAGS. :) In the end I _can_ use my system ... and - as far as I can see - gstreamer runs fine (I deactivated maketest to compile the recent gstreamer). But failed tests are failed tests. Anyway, I'll try to keep in mind not to file more bugs regarding gstreamer here. cheers
Sorry for to reneging on my promise, but ... this bug report #124358 realtes to my problem ... means, gstreamer compiles fine after emerging dev-libs/check-0.9.3-r1. cheers
