fbi-1.31 is in portage, but outdated. For me, the fbgs script (so far the only
way I found to view pdf files on the framebuffer console!) included with
fbi-1.31 does not work at all, apparently because gs outputs the
wrong image format (tiff or jpeg, can't remember which).

In 2004 upstream merged fbi with another package called "ida".
The distribution is now called fbida.

This ebuild extracts fbi-2.03 from the fbida distribution. The fbgs script
works just fine here. I can read pdf on the framebuffer :D

Feel free to extend the ebuild to install ida as well.
But I myself don't need it :)

Alternative fbi-2.03.ebuild

This attachment contains an alternative fbi-2.03 ebuild, which is just a slight
modification of the current fbi-1.31 ebuild. Thus it is simpler and it should
also implicitly install ida too if USE=X and virtual/motif is installed.

BTW, Also take note of bug #80414.
I don't have a clue why it got assigned to Jeffrey Forman immediately after I
posted it...

I am in favour Petr's version too.
It might be worth considering renaming the whole thing to fbida though.

Actually, my version should have dropped the X useflag completely.

I've added a new package called 'fbida' to CVS. Please test. And thanks for
your help :)
