This is there because you upgraded to glib-2.28, which changed the way in which preferred applications for browser/mail/etc are chosen. A fix for this was recently committed to the tree, you need to upgrade gnome-session and gnome-control-center, and set your preferred applications again. I think we should keep this bug open for a few days so that people don't file dupe bugs. +*gnome-control-center-2.32.1-r1 (27 Mar 2011) + + 27 Mar 2011; Pacho Ramos <pacho@gentoo.org> + -files/gnome-control-center-2.28.1-gdm-default-bg.patch, + -gnome-control-center-2.30.1.ebuild, +gnome-control-center-2.32.1-r1.ebuild, + +files/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-duplicated-background.patch, + +files/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-erase-background.patch, + +files/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-mime-handler.patch, + +files/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-mime-handler2.patch, + +files/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-mime-handler3.patch: + Revision bump using URL handlers for browser and mailer applications to be + compatible with glib-2.28, not showing twice the configured background if it + is a symlink to a known background, not erasing backgrounds.xml under some + circumstances (bug #344335 by Matthew Turnbull). Remove old. + It is still not fixed. Now I only can select firefox as browser, mail and otheres are greyed out. See screenshot Created attachment 267483 [details]

This is fixed, but a lot of apps need to fix their desktop files, see for example bug #360797 and latest changes in evolution-2.32.2-r2 I had not known there was a problem before, having run gnome-control-center-2.32.1 since earlier this month. Then this morning after upgrading to -r1 I noticed that when I click on URLs in applications (such as evolution), the page opens up in gedit. Going into "Preferred Applications" I see that there is no "Web Browser" selected and it's greyed out so I cannot select one. Downgrading back to gnome-control-center-2.32.1 resolves the issue. I'd like to correct my previous comment. It appears I am having the same issue. I upgraded to the g-c-c -r1 and rebooted and, yes, Epiphany is the only web browser selectable. I used to use Chromium, but it's not even an option anymore and the "Custom" option is now missing :( Working around it now by symlinking chromium-browser to ~/.local/bin/epiphany You are suffering bug 360797 Looks like depending bugs are fixed and glib-2.28 went to stable |
