$ emerge --onehost slang $ revdep-rebuild After all, i run mc and get this "hint" $ mc <F3><CF><D7><C5><D4>: <F5><D3><D4><C1><CE><CF><D7><C9><D7> <D0><C5><D2><C5><CD><C5><CE><CE><D5><C0> CDPATH, <D7><D9> <D3><C2><C5><D2><C5><D6><C5><D4><C5>... In previous version slang mc localized hints is ok.
Please add something very important: what slang version did you upgrade from.
Cause if it was slang-1*, I may have an idea what causes it.
As Rafał said, please provide the ouput of emerge -pv slang as well as emerge --info and reopen.

OK, in that case, this is actually an upstream problem, that was hidden while slang 1.4.9 was still in use. The short story is: the way upstream does hints is locale-incompatible. RedHat solved that by making users use UTF-8 locales by default and converting all mc.hint* to utf8. I think (haven't tested it, though) that while this would work for any user using utf8 locale, it would break in non-utf8 ones. I use an UTF-8 locale myself so that way works for me and is one of main reasons why I still use my own mc ebuild (at first it was about Gentoo not moving to the cvs version, depending on slang 2). For more information, check source rpm of mc (the RedHat build file). The most annoying thing about it is that development of mc seemed to cease, but I could find anything as simple and convenient to replace it.
That was of course 'I couldn't find'.

Reopen this bug.
Thanks, patch help me!
To the bug reporter : I think you failed to reopen, do it, so the bug doesn't get lost.
(In reply to comment #10) > To the bug reporter : > I think you failed to reopen, do it, so the bug doesn't get lost. > I must reopen bug?
Yes, so it gets reassigned to mc maintainer and the patch gets into the tree. As long as it's closed, the patch may be just laying here and nobody will now about it.
Only reporter and admins can reopen a bug, normal users can't.

This patch implies adding virtual/iconv as build time dependency.

(In reply to comment #15) > This patch implies adding virtual/iconv as build time dependency. > Doesn't glib dependency already imply that (and as a runtime, too) ?
When this bug will be fixed? :)
