Where does your /bin/sh symlink point to?

Ditto here (net-analyzer/nmap-4.68 [4.65] USE="ssl -gtk -lua" 0 kB)

Found this in the change log (http://nmap.org/changelog.html)

"o Fixed a bug which prevented the --without-liblua compilation option
from working. Thanks to Kris Katterjohn for the patch."

yet, this is the problem. Could Fyodor have an earlier version on the nmap distribution page?

HTH

p.s. there are many, other "lua" changes throughout the changelog.

CRAP

I posted the above on the wrong bug report (s.b. 4.68 requires lua)

....... sorry
Comment 6 Michal Januszewski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-03 19:00:55 UTC
Could you please see whether the nmap-4.68 ebuild works for you?
Comment 7 7v5w7go9ub0o 2008-07-03 19:56:50 UTC
Heh..,had to fool with it. It does compile for me after...

1. Upgrading to lua 5.1.3-r3 (which, among other things, adds deprecated):
[I] dev-lang/lua
     Available versions: 5.1.1-r2 5.1.3-r1 (~)5.1.3-r2 (~)5.1.3-r3

2. Adding lua to my nmap flags (won't work with -lua):
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/lua-5.1.3-r3 USE="deprecated readline -static" 211 kB
[ebuild R ] net-analyzer/nmap-4.68 USE="lua ssl -gtk" 5,839 kB

So something is borked - my newbie guess remains that the --without-liblua option isn't working; perhaps because Fyodor hasn't posted the right distr.

(FWIW, The new snort requires lua, and I've screwed up enough bugzilla posts recently so I simply added it and moved on. But to your credit, you're diggin' in :-)

HTH!

I narrowed it down to locale problem :)

LC_ALL=et_EE emerge nmap doesn't work, LC_ALL=C does :D

Patch to run make install with LC_ALL=C

Could you please apply the attached patch to your nmap ebuild and see whether it emerges successfully without requiring you to manually modify your locale settings?

Yup, it worked, but I think it should also be reported to upstream, as it is just a workaround.

Sure, let's just check one more thing first :) Could you please have a look
at bug #121025 and see whether the patch attached there fixes the problem for you? (you can either modify the ebuild not to use LC_ALL=C and to apply the patch, or simply unpack the nmap tarball somewhere, apply the patch manually and do e.g. ./configure ; make ; make DESTDIR=/tmp/nmap install).

Yup, works :)

shtool bundled with nmap is 2.0.2, but latest one upstream is 2.0.7 (which seems to have this kind of NLS fixes)

Great :) I sent a shtool upgrade request upstream, we'll see how it goes
from here.
