Description:   Opened: 2008-03-22 19:35 0000
mail-notification-5.0-r1 in portage doesn't build with eel-2.22 in gnome
overlay (which will hit portage soon).

There's a patch (at
http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/garnome/trunk/geektoys/mail-notification/files/mail-notification-5.0-eelfix.diff?revision=6271&view=markup)
-- I've tried this and MN seems to build and run fine with this.

However, I don't know if this will fail with eel-2.20 or less.

Reproducible: Always

Attaching the patch here for easy reference/download (the Gnome ViewVC doesn't
seem to have a raw download :X)

Upstream has dropped support for eel completely in version 5.2, that just got
added to CVS. I may still want to patch 5.0 to work with the newer eel, so I'm
leaving this bug open for now.

------- Comment #4 From Hans de Graaff 2008-07-22 09:08:04 0000 -------
My current preference is to stabilize mail-notification 5.4 to fix this issue.
However, this version just got added today, so depending on the gnome 2.22
stabilization timetable we may need to stabilize mail-notification 5.3 first.

------- Comment #5 From Olivier Crete 2008-07-28 02:20:39 0000 -------
I was going to do 5.4 directly to stable (on amd64), but I don't know which
version of net-mail/fetchyahoo to make stable with it.. the older version
doesn't work with the newer interface and the newer one is still beta.. Maybe
it would be better to disable the yahoo use flag for now?

------- Comment #6 From Hans de Graaff 2008-07-28 05:09:45 0000 -------
kanaka mentions in the fetchyahoo changelog that there won't be stable
versions. If that is the case then we should drop the yahoo use flag. kanaka,
can you confirm that?

------- Comment #7 From Joel Martin 2008-07-28 12:34:36 0000 -------
Yep, I don't plan on making fetchyahoo versions stable. New version come out
faster than the standard Gentoo stabalizing period and the newest version is
generally the only one that works well.

------- Comment #8 From Hans de Graaff 2008-08-03 18:18:54 0000 -------
I have now dropped the yahoo USE flag from mail-notification.

------- Comment #9 From Olivier Crete 2008-08-04 02:00:58 0000 -------
alright, its stable on amd64

Shouldn't the arches be CC'ed?

No, this isn't a stabilization bug right now. Olivier stabled the version as
part of the Gnome 2.22 bug, which this bug blocks.

x86 stable for mail-client/mail-notification-5.4

------- Comment #13 From Maciej Józiewicz 2008-09-08 22:29:06 0000 -------
I just emerged mail-notification-5.4. I'm using Gnome. I'm on +amd64 with the
~amd64 xorg (1.5.0) and mesa (7.3), so I do have eel-2.22.

There is no icon on the tray - I think there should be (I haven't used it
before). When I run 'mail-notification -p' or '-o' it crashes after a few
seconds (not a constant time). Until then the GUI is totally responsive.

Almost always there's this warning (the hex number differs):
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x48d)!

And sometimes also this:
Xlib: sequence lost (0x10209 > 0x217) in reply type 0xa1!

Is this the same thing or should I file a new bug? If it is then what other
info should I attach?

This is a different problem, since the eel issue is related to building the
software. Please open a new bug for it if you want, but it sounds to me like
this might better be reported upstream.

------- Comment #15 From Maciej Józiewicz 2008-09-10 09:38:34 0000 -------
Thanks.

I just reported the bug upstream:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mail-notification/+bug/268479

------- Comment #16 From Henrique Rodrigues 2008-10-23 00:03:31 0000 -------
mail-client/mail-notification-5.4 is now stable on all arches, so I vote that
this bug be closed and older versions be cleared out of the tree.

------- Comment #17 From Hans de Graaff 2008-10-23 06:01:15 0000 -------
Agreed. I have removed the old versions.
