It seems that this problem is quickfixed if you do a USE="-gdbm" it's working then. Question is this intentionally or just a bug.
ahh yeah that worked :) i don't know what gdbm is but it works ^^

It doens't work for me even with -gdbm reating libbdbobj.la (cd .libs && rm -f libbdbobj.la && ln -s ../libbdbobj.la libbdbobj.la) /bin/sh ./libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -O3 -march=pentium-m -pipe -ftracer -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fvisibility-inlines-hidden -static -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common -s -o testbdb testbdb.o libbdbobj.la -ldb-4.2 i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -O3 -march=pentium-m -pipe -ftracer -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fvisibility-inlines-hidden -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common -s -o testbdb testbdb.o ./.libs/libbdbobj.a /usr/lib/libdb-4.2.so -lpthread ./.libs/libbdbobj.a(bdbobj.o): In function `.L40': bdbobj.c:(.text+0x2a7): undefined reference to `db_create' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[3]: *** [testbdb] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/courier-authlib-0.58/work/courier-authlib-0.58/bdbobj' make[2]: *** [all] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/courier-authlib-0.58/work/courier-authlib-0.58/bdbobj' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/courier-authlib-0.58/work/courier-authlib-0.58' make: *** [all] Error 2 !!! It it could help, I have openldap-2.3.31-r1 installed , which means different/new libldap and liblber
Unfortunately, many users of courier-authlib's userdb mechanism can't disable gdbm.
(In reply to comment #9) > It doens't work for me even with -gdbm Completely unrelated issue, move it somewhere else please.

I can confirm, adding "-gdbm" solve autoconf error.
This seems trivial to fix. I'm going to attach a patch to the ebuild, and the new FILESDIR patch it depends on.
Created attachment 107169 [details] files/configure-gdbm.patch Remove obsolete macro even when the gdbm USE flag is set.
Created attachment 107171 [details, diff] files/configure-gdbm.patch Remove obsolete macro even when the gdbm USE flag is set.
Created attachment 107172 [details, diff] Patch against courier-authlib-0.58.ebuild Fix ebuild to apply configure-gdbm.patch when the gdbm USE flag is set.
Thanks, fixed in CVS.
