(Some people talked about this bug in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114041 (comments 6 and 8), but here is the separate bug report.) Error message box when starting Firefox 1.5: "Firefox could not install this item because of a failure in Chrome Registration. Please contact the author about this problem.". After the first run (ie. clean profile), the error message only appear from time to time, when starting Firefox. See: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311480 From the Firefox 1.5 known issues (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.html#issues): "If Firefox 1.5 is installed on a multi-user system in a location which is not writable by users, Firefox must be run once by a privileged user. If this is not desirable, an empty file must be created in the following directory: <install-directory>/extensions/talkback@mozilla.org/chrome.manifest". Creating the empty file /opt/firefox/extensions/talkback@mozilla.org/chrome.manifest does indeed resolve the problem. The problem appears in www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-1.5 (and certainly in www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5 too). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Emerge www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-1.5 2. Start Firefox with a clean profile Actual Results: Error message box with the message: "Firefox could not install this item because of a failure in Chrome Registration. Please contact the author about this problem.". The box appears twice in a row, when starting Firefox with a clean profile, and then appears once in a while, when starting Firefox. Expected Results: No error message box.
As the person who edited the summary to add "-bin" meant, the problem does not appear with www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5 (the file already is here).
fixed in -r1 thanks for feedback.
