Good that you completely snipped the relevant output... No need to post the *topmost* build error, as the message told you, not this.

Also post emerge --info output.

You still didn't post any errors. Post/attach all emerge output starting with the first error you get on compile.

The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

Does it fail repeatedly at *exactly* the same place?
Comment 6 Suhas Vishwanath 2007-11-13 13:13:25 UTC
Yes.
Comment 7 Suhas Vishwanath 2007-11-13 13:13:46 UTC

There, i've reopened it

the error message indicates otherwise:
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

that means gcc tried to internally compile the code twice ... the first time it crashed, but the second time it did not

That's right. I've built new "gaming" PC with ASUS MoBo and I got similar errors during compiling of GCC. And yes, it was HW issue (wrong memory timing)

It seems that you've HW/memory probles.
I recommend you to emerge "sci-mathematics/gimps" program. There is "benchmark/stress" test. After few minutes (15-30) of that test you'll know if you've "faulty" HW or not.

(In my case, there was "aggressive" memory timing set in BIOS)
