Pyfloppy 1.1 http://www.8ung.at/klappnase/pyfloppy/pyfloppy.html I found pyfloppy tonight and it works very well, particularly for running through a bunch of half rotten disks deciding which to through in the bin. I built an ebuild for it and also a small patch to fix a path, I could have used a 'sed' line in the ebuild instead of the patch but every time I do something like that I get jumped on by the readability police :) Anyway I'm not used to submitting ebuilds so forgive my if I've done something wrong, and please correct me if I have. I've updated this ebuild to version 1.3, I still find it a useful tool, even if it's not in the official tree. New ebuild posted below.

Well, it looks like Michael has been busy updating PyFloppy, I only just noticed this. I've updated the ebuild for version v1.6 and also added a patch to catch instances where python is installed without tk support and print the appropriate message suggesting that the 'tk' USE flage be enabled for python.
