Description soya 2005-06-13 13:55:11 UTC
Hello, today i've updated coreutils, baselayout and new sysvinit. I want to make
a special note saying i have updated all my config files and edited them
correctly. After the update my locales are not working well, i've lost some
letters/simbols like 's' or '#' ONLY IN LOWER CASE, I'm using iso8559-15. I have
another two machines with very similar configs and the same locales, and
updating packages have no given me this strange problem.
All characters works well in blackbox, kde and any other app. Everything is
smooth except i can't type lowe case 's' and '#' only in bash, no mater if i use
xterm, console or a real console tty. If i open nano, vi or whatever in bash,
there i can type lowe case 's' and '#' without troubles. 's' in upper case works
well, i can read directories and words with s but i can't type them. It's very
anoying and strange. It happened to me after the update, the config is the same
since i just copied what i have in the old rc.conf and pasted in the new split
files.
I've converted the system to utf8 and still the same issue 's' is out pfff. also
converte the other machines to utf8 and them work well, so yes now i'm using
utf8 and for the moment don't gonna paste the config files cause with iso8859-15
have the same error and the case is exact. I also recompiled all the fonts with
no luck.
Downgrading to the previosus versions diddin't help

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge baselayout coreutils sysvinit
2.etc-update
3.

Actual Results:
lower case 's' and '#' is broken, they work everyrhere except in bash, no matter
if it's a tty or a xterm...

Expected Results:
work well as expected

Please use "New -> Gentoo Linux -> Component: Ebuilds" in future. Infrastructure
is not the correct addressee.

Comment 5 soya 2005-06-14 14:28:58 UTC
Now i've seen this problem before setting the system to utf8 during the system
boot up

KDSKBENT: Invalid argument
failed to bind key 255 to value 1119

and after the dmesg during the system boot also seen this

couldn't load font file
Couldn't load 26 pt font from (null)
Comment 6 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-06-14 14:53:42 UTC
are your /etc/conf.d/keymaps and/or /etc/conf.d/consolefont settings correct then ?
Comment 7 soya 2005-06-14 15:17:46 UTC
downgrading to bash-2.05b-r11 solved the problem... what a shit, but now i'm
happy and gonna look for a new not broken bash
