Working on an AMD64 box; I'm seeing the following messages showing up (on freshly re-emerged versions of the ghostscript and ghostscript-afpl packages): mcfletch@raistlin:~/pylive/cinemon/sales$ gs GPL Ghostscript 8.15 (2004-09-22) Copyright (C) 2004 artofcode LLC, Benicia, CA. All rights reserved. This software comes with NO WARRANTY: see the file PUBLIC for details. Unrecoverable error: syntaxerror in token Operand stack: --nostringval-- --nostringval-- Bullets4 Japanese --nostringval-- The same messages show up whenevery any application tries to use ghostscript for viewing a postscript file. Same problem shows up with gsview in trying to load a pdf file (as a test). I'm guessing this is a missing or corrupt file issue, likely one of the startup files imported by the postscript interpreter. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to convince gs to output any more information about what it's doing when it encounters the syntax error (i.e. in what file it's failing). This doesn't appear to be a duplicate of bug#89089 as there doesn't appear to be a segfault going on, nor does downgrading to 7.05.6 help. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge ghostscript-7.07.1-r8 or ghostscript-7.05.6-r2 or ghostscript-afpl-8.15 2. run gs 3. Actual Results: Syntax error and immediate exit. Expected Results: Should start the command-line ghostscript interpreter. mcfletch@raistlin:~/pylive/cinemon/sales$ sudo emerge info Portage 2.0.51.22-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.8 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r4 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" PKGDIR="/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/home/mcfletch/portagedev" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aalib acpi alsa arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dvd esd fam flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gphoto2 gpm gtk imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jp2 jpeg junit kde ldap libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad mikmod motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam perl png postgres python qt readline samba scanner sdl slang snmp ssl svg tcltk tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales vorbis xine xml xml2 xmms xpm xrandr xv zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS
Can you please try with app-text/gnu-ghostscript?
Same results with gnu-ghostscript: mcfletch@raistlin:/usr/share/inkscape$ gs GNU Ghostscript 8.16 (2005-05-09) Copyright (C) 2004 artofcode LLC, Benicia, CA. All rights reserved. This looks really like a duplicate of bug 89089 Can you please check again if ghostscript-7.05.6-r2 does not work for you? Because thats the only difference as far as I can see .. Can you please alo look if you experience bug 74090 on your machine?
I bumped the version for afpl today .. but I dont think that helps. I guess it is something unrelated to ghostscript. DO you have any news for us?
no activity here. Please reopne if you are interested in solving it
