After building gdal on a system with libaec and then running depclean:

>>> package: sci-libs/libaec-1.0.6
 *  - /usr/lib64/libaec.so.0
 *  - /usr/lib64/libaec.so.0.0.12
 *      used by /usr/lib64/libgdal.so.35.3.9.1 (sci-libs/gdal-3.9.1)


Build system appears to default to linking this library when it's available according to documentation: https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/blob/v3.9.1/doc/source/development/building_from_source.rst
