i dont see why you would get a leading space: $ skip=$(head -n 5 /dev/urandom | wc -c) $ echo "A${skip}A" A813A wc shouldnt dump any spaces
I have no problems merging enemy-territory after doing an emerge --sync. I tried it on 3 different machines, just to be sure.
