To stay on the safe side, I did the following:

- removed /usr/portage/distfiles/donations-4.5.0.tar.gz
- emerge sync

Now the problem is slightly different:

>>> emerge (1 of 1) www-apps/drupal-4.6.0_rc1 to /

Comment 4 Martin Allchin 2005-04-16 07:59:05 UTC
You can get past this by re-generating the digests and starting the emerge again:

'ebuild /usr/portage/www-apps/drupal/drupal-4.6.0_rc1.ebuild digest && emerge www-apps/drupal'

If/when it fails on another file, repeat this step.

Not ideal, files might not be sane, but they untar okay.

Comment 8 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 15:14:17 UTC
Comment #7: Hmm, seems that actually the mirrors are fsck-ed up. Could someone try to download directly from http://drupal.org/project/releases and verify whether at least upstream has the correct ones?
Comment 9 Yuri 2005-04-16 15:22:10 UTC
I can if someone tells me how.
Comment 10 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 15:56:10 UTC
Sorry, ignore my stupid comment #8. Now it actually downloads directly from drupal.org - only now I had a look at SRC_URI in ebuild. In that case, you should probable report this upstream.

Comment 11 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 16:00:17 UTC
The Drupal project are unfortunately well-known for updating tarballs on their mirrors without bumping the versions, hence all these bugs. :(

I've just updated the digests for drupal, however it took ages as nearly every single file being pulled from drupal.org had changed and I am weary of committing it...
Comment 12 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 16:04:23 UTC
Elfyn - well, I guess it can
Comment 13 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 16:04:23 UTC
Elfyn - well, I guess it can´t be much worse even if you commit wrong digests again. :-)
Comment 14 Yuri 2005-04-16 16:14:32 UTC
So, what can be done? I'm not sure on updating digests - have never done it before, so i would need the instructions. Any chance of making this finish compiling?

thanks
Comment 15 Yuri 2005-04-16 16:18:30 UTC
Or is there a way to bypass digests alltogether?
Comment 16 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 16:34:24 UTC
Digest fixed in CVS (for now).
Comment 17 Yuri 2005-04-16 16:38:19 UTC
So how drupal can be installed right now?
Comment 18 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-16 16:41:05 UTC
Wait ~30 minutes, emerge --sync and then emerge www-apps/drupal.
Comment 19 Yuri 2005-04-17 13:49:45 UTC
Did wait, tried to emerge -v drupal. Got same error message. Decided to wait untill next day (just in case update took longer). Today still getting same error. Here is the output:

Can we change status to open and not resolved, as emerge drupal still fails?
thanks
Comment 21 Yuri 2005-04-18 19:03:50 UTC
Shell i put in another bug report to get this issue looked at?
Comment 22 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-18 19:37:32 UTC
No, please do not file duplicate bugs, it will not motivate anyone further/get the issue fixed more quickly. Please give me a few minutes, and it'll be fixed in CVS (again, for now.. sigh !).
Comment 23 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-18 20:01:47 UTC
Fixed in CVS until upstream breaks it again..
Comment 24 Yuri 2005-04-18 21:06:44 UTC
Ok. I've done emerge sync. then tried to do "emerge drupal" it failed with

Next i tried to run " ebuild /usr/portage/www-apps/drupal/drupal-4.6.0_rc1.ebuild digest && emerge www-apps/drupal"

and i've got this :

It's the same problem as before but now on a different file.
Comment 25 Yuri 2005-04-18 21:21:26 UTC
More update:
After running ebuild /usr/portage/www-apps/drupal/drupal-4.6.0_rc1.ebuild digest && emerge www-apps/drupal"
 for most of the packages that were either failing due to MD5 or complained about the unpacking, i've got stuck at the same package as before

Here is the output:

>>> Unpacking paypal_framework-4.6.0.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/drupal-

hi,
  upstream uploads files without changing the version of the files. Both size and md5 data get different. I should just remove all the modules since they are such a pain to manage.

This package is a genuine PITA. :/

+1 for sending the modules to /dev/null
Comment 29 Elfyn McBratney (beu) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-19 00:41:05 UTC
/me nods at that.

Although the mirroring issue should be fixed in a couple of hours, I'd be for dropping the modules (though, that's not the only source of problems)... Stuart, what do you think about doing this ?

/me notes this is less drastic than what I was about to suggest - removing www-apps/drupal ;)

BTW, anyone has a pointer to an upstream bug for this? I´d really like to comment on intellect of the upstream guys. :p
Comment 32 Yuri 2005-04-19 10:03:27 UTC
While removing modules may be the way to go, i would really like to understand why unpacking fails? After all, it does start the process but then aborts. Also - if the issue is HASHING of the files, anyway to manually bypass the md5 checksum check when emerging the package?

I will send an e-mail to the devs of drupal noting the problem with lack of versioning, but still need to find a work around or fix for this issue.
Comment 33 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-19 16:28:45 UTC
Comment #30: Delete all the downloaded files, delete the digest and generate the digest again. If this does not fix it, then ustream has IMHO crappy broken files whose integrity should not be trusted...
Comment 34 Yuri 2005-04-19 17:41:49 UTC
How can i delete and remake hashes?
Comment 35 Yuri 2005-04-19 17:56:43 UTC
Ok, deleted files, tried to emerge with ebuild and hashing... and it now fails with the same error on a different package. Thanks guys, but i'm done with this package install through portage. Manual it is. I sugest you remove the package from the tree untill it either gets versioning or a work around.

how to use that ebuild file? where do i need to save it to?

thanks a lot for helping with this !

Your local portage-tree?

/localtree/www-apps/drupal

FEATURES="digest" USE="-cleanup -minimal" emerge drupal

should do the trick. Watch the messages though ;).

Hi,
  This does not solve the fundamental problem of upstream providing modules without renaming.
