instead of having a bunch of instructions in a page for users to switch profile (sometimes they have bugs, I still did not manage to upgrade my Athlon 64 machine to the 2005.0 profile), we could have a single portagre command to do the switch, like "portage --update-profile 2005.0". This is against the philosophy of emerge. Emerge does not alter any configuration files and leaves that entirely up to the user. Seeing the /etc/make.profile link is a configuration file, it is out of emerge's domain. Your request will probably be handled by gui tools as they come about.
