Just tried out the newest 2005.0 universal CD and it exhibits the same problem that the first 2004.3 release had... the system refuses to boot the CD. The MD5 sum checks out on the ISO and Windows can see the files fine. You guys released a 2004.3-1 that fixed this problem, but now the problem has returned on this newest CD. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: It would be nice to boot and install Gentoo ;)
I can confirm this, minimal CD isn't booting on my HP zv5485 Pavilion, and like <a href="http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-315007.html">this thread</a> it seems that the minimal and the universal CD did not boot anyways.
I had a problem with the first install cds that went to the mirror. By accident, they we not-bootable. This was discovered 3 days _before_ the release. I updated it and wolf put the new version on the mirrors. Now, as there are people who can boot the livecds there are 2 possibilities: a) You downloaded the cds before the release from some leaking mirror(s) or b) You downloaded the cds from some broken mirrors that didn't update. So tell me, is a) probably true ?
I hate to contradict a developer, but I downloaded the 2005.0 minimal install CD this morning from an official mirror (University of Padova - Italy: http://www.die.unipd.it/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo-sources/) and it does not boot. I then checked several other mirrors, both in US and Europe and all the ISOs have the same md5 as the non bootable one, so they ought to be the same. The mirrors I checked are: OSU Open Source Labs (US): http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ University of California - Santa Barbara (US): ftp://ftp.ucsb.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/gentoo/ University of Wisconsin at Madison Chemistry Department (US): http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ Inode (Austria): http://gentoo.inode.at/ Vienna University of Technology (Austria): http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ BELNET (Belgium): http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ The UK Mirror Service (UK): http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ It looks like the new ISOs have never been updated on the mirrors.
i downloaded this morning, from gatech.edu
I downloaded a universal livecd from ftp://mirror.pudas.net an hour ago and it wont boot on my Asus A8N-SLI s939 with a 3500+. Which mirror should I try?
I saw a dev ask what I mean about "it won't boot." I mean, it won't boot. When reading from the CD on boot, it just skips the CD completely as if it's not a bootable CD or anything, just a regular data cd.
There's a forum post here about it: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=2240429 Someone in the forum post says that their CD burning program reported that the ISO isn't bootable...
Please give me the md5sum of those iso files... valid md5sums are: 0a9cbbe8e705e73153a7ae5890377978 install-amd64-minimal-2005.0.iso e07853b2d5c17212fd401fe15646404b install-amd64-universal-2005.0.iso Images with different md5sum are unsupported and considered broken. Again: There are user who can boot those cd without problems!
There are *many* users who cannot boot these CDs... please see the forum post I just posted.
md5sum of gatech's minimal installcd is: 33e808854f77b63ab5a58d4805f99a81 install-amd64-minimal-2005.0.iso checked at this moment. It is still beeing there.
My md5sums: vermyndax@raven-linux:~/Desktop$ md5sum install-amd64-universal-2005.0.iso f4af249662e8e72f7129fa86943b8b6a install-amd64-universal-2005.0.iso vermyndax@raven-linux:~$ md5sum install-amd64-minimal-2005.0.iso 33e808854f77b63ab5a58d4805f99a81 install-amd64-minimal-2005.0.iso The problem is, these md5sums match the md5sum files listed on the mirrors I used. That makes me think there is a corrected ISO that should be updating on the mirrors, but all the mirrors I find have these ISOs. The last one I tried was gentoo.ccccom.com... have also tried Pair Networks and gatech.edu... as well as a few others.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-315156.html This bug report can now be considered closed since this appears to be what the problem is...
The mirrors do have the broken images; we are working on releasing a fresh set.
Ok, new CDs should be on the mirrors shortly: MD5 install-amd64-minimal-2005.0-r1.iso 0a9cbbe8e705e73153a7ae5890377978 MD5 install-amd64-universal-2005.0-r1.iso e07853b2d5c17212fd401fe15646404b
I've since posted newer iso's (they do NOT have the -r1 moniker on them). Look at the timestamp, they should be dated March 28th. Give this some time, as the mirrors must sync up from the change. Thanks, looking forward to it!
New ISOs fixed the problem. Thanks!
The CD not boot... don
The CD not boot... don´t is information for the motherboard (anyone) boot these disc. Sorry my english is not pefect.
New ISOs work, closing this bug as fixed. If you still have boot issues, please ensure that the MD5 of your ISO image matches those posted in comment #14 and reopen this bug if the issue occurs with the new ISOs.
