Motif-config is, according to the ebuild, distributed under a GPL-2 license, however, motif-config includes files clearly belonging to openmotif. There are three problems: 1. The motif-config script itself is distributed under GPL-2, and therefore incompatible with the openmotif license (GPL does not allow further restrictions). While ugly, it's at least of no concern to end users. 2. Users of GPL'd Lesstif are forced to install parts of openmotif for absolutely no technical reason due to it's dependancy on motif-config. 3. As a result of 2, MacOS users (listed in KEYWORDS from motif-config-0.4 on) can't legally use Lesstif because of openmotif's licence (and therefore motif-config due to its inclusion of openmotif parts) that allows installation and use of openmotif on free operating systems only.
fixed in -0.9
It isn't. All openmotif ebuilds have either "ppc-macos" or "~ppc-macos" in "KEYWORDS". The Open Group Public License clearly states [begin quote] This software is subject to an open license. It may only be used on, with or for operating systems which are themselves open source systems. You must contact The Open Group for a license allowing distribution and sublicensing of this software on, with, or for operating systems which are not Open Source programs. [end quote] Ergo, usage on macos is not covered by this license. Please be more careful next time.
this is no problem with motif-config but with openmotif and ppc-macos. so please open another bug and assign it to the ppc-macos team
