The gnome-volume-applet works fine as long as I don't try to listen to music with Rhythmbox or try to play Doom
The gnome-volume-applet works fine as long as I don't try to listen to music with Rhythmbox or try to play Doom³. It says: "Volume Control" has quit unexpectedly. Then I can reload it, and it's fine as long as I start another program that uses sound. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge gnome-2.10 and rhyhtmbox on amd64 2. place a volume-applet in your panel 3. start rhythmbox and listen to a radio stream 4. as soon as you doubleclick on the stream and rhythmbox begins to play, the volume-applet will crash Actual Results: The volume-control dies and I can reload it Expected Results: It should not die. root@sixtyfour null # emerge info Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r 1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4-r1 [2.3.4 (#1, Mar 18 2005, 01:05:42) ] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.9.4, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.4_p6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops -pipe -march=athlon64" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share /config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kd e/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/default s/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops -pipe -march=athlon64" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/ftp/mirror/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X acpi alsa bitmap-fonts cd cdr crypt cups curl dbus divx dvd fam fon t-server fortran gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal imlib jp2 jpeg kde libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad mozilla mp3 multilib ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg oggvorbis op engl oss pam perl png python qt readline real samba sdl spell ssl tcltk tcpd tif f truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales vorbis xine xinerama xml2 xpm xprint xrandr xv zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS
can you get a backtrace with debugging info of the crashing applet ?
i don't know how to start the applet manually from the console...
Run /usr/libexec/mixer_applet2 from console. FYI, In order to enable debug mode, you will need to recompile gnome-base/gnome-applets with the debug USE flag set like so: export USE='debug' && emerge -av gnome-base/gnome-applets Regards,
also i would be a bit more conservative on the CFLAGS to start with. Any of the amd64 folk able to reproduce ?
I emerged rythmbox, and it worked.. No crash of the gnome app.. please provide the backtrace we requested, we cannot reproduce and need more to work with.
sorry about that, but I reinstalled the whole system and it seems to work now without problems.
