"Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug." I, among other people apparently, receive this dialogue when using Rhythmbox. I have tried all of the steps listed on the reference URL to no avail. Some people in #gentoo-amd64 have reported no problems with GStreamer, but at least 3 others in the channel reported otherwise. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Rhythmbox or use GStreamer from the CLI 2. Attempt to play anything Actual Results: Error dialogue (or CLI message): "Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug." I am guessing that this affects anything built on GStreamer, which, in turn, would make a handful of useful applications useless. :) Expected Results: Played the music with no error? :) Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r14 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r14 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4-r1 [2.3.4 (#1, Mar 24 2005, 13:24:51)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.4 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ ftp://mirror.usu.edu/mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo" LANG="en_US.utf8" LC_ALL="en_US.utf8" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 3dnowext X acpi alsa avi bash-completion bitmap-fonts blender-game bonobo bootsplash cdparanoia cdr chroot cups curl curlwrappers directfb divx4linux doc dvd emacs evo2 fam fb fbcon flac fmod font-server foomaticdb ftp gif gimp gimpprint gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk2 http ieee1394 imap java javascript jpeg lm_sensors mad mime mozilla moznocompose moznoirc moznomail mozsvg mp3 mpeg mplayer multilib mysql ncurses offensive ogg oggvorbis opengl pam pam_timestamp perl php png posix python quicktime samba sockets ssl svg tiff truetype truetype-fonts unicode usb vcd xine xv xvid zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY -- I am using snd-via82xx with ALSA support built into my kernel; Sound works perfectly in other applications (i.e. XMMS).

is it still apparent with gst-plugins 0.8.10 and alsa-lib 1.0.9 and kernel 2.6.12?
Since I'm now with this problem I might as well pitch in. I have an Athlon64 but run it like an Athlon XP so gstreamer doesn't run in 64bit mode in my case. xfMedia doesn't play songs at all it only tries and then skip to another one. On the other hand, rhythmbox, that I've installed yesterday to try another player, spew out the same error messages discussed here. FYI, this is still happening on gst-plugins 0.8.10 and alsa-lib 1.0.9 and kernel 2.6.12 (gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r6 to be exact). If you need another log, just tell me. I don't know if this is related, but: Rhythmbox works just fine for me, but I just masked the xine USE flag for totem to try it out with GStreamer (0.8.11). I have the same errors here with totem or bmpx using gstreamer as backend. Is someone still working on this bug?
What is your audio sink set to in gconf (/system/gstreamer/0.8/default) Also try gst-plugins 0.8.12 that has numerous alsa fixes. Though 0.8 is not really maintained anymore as 0.10 is the current stable release upstream. However apps using 0.10 are not yet in portage.
is it still relevant with current gstreamer/totem/rhythmbox ?
(In reply to comment #16) > is it still relevant with current gstreamer/totem/rhythmbox ? > It hasn't come up recently on my AMD64 Gentoo Stable.
Current stable rhythmbox/totem is using gstreamer 0.10.x; this bug is probably no more relevant.
