Description Mike Lundy 2005-03-18 17:51:36 UTC
fortune-mod is looking in the wrong place for the fortune data files-
the strace shows:

stat64("/var/tmp/portage/fortune-mod-1.99.1-r1/image//usr/local/share/fortune", 0xbfffe024) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64("/var/tmp/portage/fortune-mod-1.99.1-r1/image//usr/share/fortune", 0xbfffe024) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge fortune-mod
2. `fortune`
3.

Actual Results:
mike@neal:~> fortune
No fortunes found

Expected Results:
displayed a random fortune :D
Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-03-18 18:08:09 UTC
that's quite odd, it shouldnt be searching $D ...

you neglected to provide any real info here ...
 - emerge info
 - `emerge fortune >& log` output

re-open when you have

Sorry, thought it was just going to end up being something silly.

Log is attached. Looking at it, I see:

cd fortune && make CC='gcc' \
CFLAGS='-DFORTDIR="\"/var/tmp/portage/fortune-mod-1.99.1-r1/image//usr/share/fortune\"" -DOFFDIR="\"/var/tmp/portage/fortune-mod-1.99.1-r1/image//usr/local/share/fortune/off\""  -DHAVE_REGEX_H -DBSD_REGEX -DHAVE_STDBOOL -I../util'
        LDFLAGS='-s' LIBS=' -lrecode'

Which is where the problem lies.
