And what do you think should a developer do without any information, but a link to a russian forum thread, he most likely cannot read at all?
Comment 2 Andrey Luzgin 2005-02-27 00:11:15 UTC
      I'm sorry...
   Simple - new glibc -s, glibc-2.3.4.2005* generate not readable LC_MESSAGES for russian (locales: ru_RU.koi8r, ru_RU.utf8, ru_RU.cp1251).
Part of programms after full installation read correct koi8r, part - no.
Example: licq - not correct, xterm - correct, eclipse-sdk - not, from firefox-bin - not correct, BARDAK, CHAOS!
Installation portage from installation CD - all work correctly, but all old...

solve this problem
Comment 4 Rumen Yotov 2005-03-07 10:51:15 UTC
Hi,
For some time also have problems with locales (bg_BG).
Seems it all was due to the fact that glibc-2.3.4-20050125 doesn't compile *any* custom locales at all.
Till now always compiled glibc without userlocales USE-flag, too lazy ;)
After checking quite some things just today saw that i only have POSIX & C locales (locale -a) available.
Also remeber i never saw (looking casually) glibc compiling any locales at all.
Now trying previous version - 20041102, will report any result.
PS: maybe this bug should be reopened if valid.
Thanks
Rumen
Comment 5 Rumen Yotov 2005-03-07 12:27:21 UTC
Hi again,
Can confirm that glibc-20050125 doesn't make any locales at all, 20041102 does.
Binary sizes compared to 20041102 are 10MB to ~17MB with quite equal USE-flags.
Saw there is a new (masked) 20050125-r1 maybe it'll fix this issue too.
Thanks
Rumen

Ugu-u-u...
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-03-08 15:43:20 UTC
what about glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r1 ?
Comment 8 Andrey Luzgin 2005-03-09 02:55:27 UTC
On 64-bit she incorrectly generates locales (or at all does not generate as here write)
Comment 9 Andrey Luzgin 2005-03-09 03:00:24 UTC
A-a-a! Cunningly. I do not know, r1 it has been disguised from the very beginning. I did not put experiences.
Comment 10 mtthsme 2005-03-09 08:06:09 UTC
It seems to be a similar problem to Bug 82106 , on ~x86.

I guess there is a file locale-archive in /usr/lib/locale, but no subdirectories with the LC_-files, as it should be.

Both 2005-versions of glibc (glibc-2.3.4.20050125 and glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r1) have this problem.

This seems to be a duplicate.
