I think it would be a good idea if pcsx2 responded to hotplug events if possible to detect if my joystick is plugged in after it starts up.

Is this something that can be fixed by changing some setting in the ebuild? (haven't tested)

This is sounding more like an upstream issue, if so then not much sense in reporting this here.
