HW : p4 3.0 (prescott), Seagate 7200.7 40G , 2G DDR400 RAM. When i try to install gentoo from universal livecd 2004.3, acting according gentoo handbook, it is unable to perform "emerge system". My actions : chrooting (all pre-actions subscribed in handbook are carefully performed),then syncing - "emerge --sync", then "bootstrap.sh" and when finally bootstrapping finished i call "emerge system" and ... emerge says that there are no packages need to be installed !!! but when i try to emerge fcron at this point, for example, emerge says that it needs to install some "system" libraries that i think cron depends on ... and moreover - i dont actually remember - but one application has compilation failed - this application wants libtool, and thinks that libtool was already installed !!! and emerge do not even try to install libtool as dependency !!! I performed installation procedure twice - and twice i was affected with this bug ... what is this ? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start to install gentoo according handbook from 2004.3 livecd 2.After chrooting, perform emerge --sync (i perform this on 20.01.2004 ~ 18.00-23.00, Moscow time) 3.run "bootstrap.sh" 4."emerge system" - at this point emerge will say that there are no packages need to be installed Actual Results: command "emerge system" has no effect Expected Results: start to install "system" packages

CD: Universal live CD 2004.3 Stage: stage1-x86-2004.3.tar.bz2 Portage snapshot: portage-20041022.tar.bz2 rsync server: rsync://mirror.aiya.ru/gentoo sync date: 20.01.2005 ~ first time 18.00 (GMT + 3), second time 23.00 (GMT + 3) And more. In november 2004 - i used this livecd to install gentoo on my homenet gatway computer. And there was no problem at all.And when i install gentoo without "emerge --sync" - its all fine ! I think there could be some bug in the portage or probably bug in the portage tree structure ...
please use a 2005.0 tarball if this still isnt resolved for you
