build-with-std-c-11.patch

NOTE: I used ed because a) I was too lazy to make a patch for such a trivial change b) sed is poorly suited to monkey patching, given that it is quite prepared to do nothing successfully (and expensively). By contrast, ed will complain if it is unable to mark the line to be edited or if it is unable to apply the substitution. Further, it will exit non-zero in either of these cases.

I don't love dragging in sys-apps/ed, but it's tiny, and I have it anyway, so meh.

Calculating dependencies... done!
  sys-apps/ed-1.17 pulled in by:
    app-text/texlive-core-2021-r1 requires sys-apps/ed

I'm actually impressed that ed does that. Maybe it's a good substitute for sed in some cases then.

In virtually every case, I'd say (I was only scratching the surface as to why). Not to mention that the employed syntax tends towards being 100% portable. Linux people - for want of a better term - constantly employ GNUisms with sed. In my experience, it is not because they are consciously doing so, but because they have never read the specification or don't really know their tools. The real trouble with ed is that trying to persuade Linux vendors to ship it in its capacity as a standard utility is like trying to get blood out of a stone. They either don't get it or don't care.
