Description Andrew Kesterson 2005-01-14 23:18:31 UTC
tonight I sync'ed my portage tree and went to emerge the world. It got as far as gcc-3.3.5-r1 and barfed, complaining about a missing make target 'profiledbootstrap'.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge sync (as of 1/15/05)
2. emerge -u world
3. (also:) emerge =gcc-3.3.5-r1

Actual Results:
* Compiling gcc ...
x86
/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.5-r1/work/build
/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.5-r1/work/build
/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.5-r1/work/gcc-3.3.5
 * Running make LDFLAGS="" STAGE1_CFLAGS="-O"
LIBPATH="/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5" BOOT_CFLAGS=" -O2 "
profiledbootstrap
make: *** No rule to make target `profiledbootstrap'. Stop.

!!! ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-3.3.5-r1 failed.
!!! Function gcc_do_make, Line 1035, Exitcode 2
!!! make failed with profiledbootstrap
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

Expected Results:
... Well, to be simple, it should have emerged GCC like it usually does. :-)

I was in init level 1 at the time but I can reproduce this in level 3 also; at
the time of the error, no other programs were running besides emerge and basic
system utils (bash).

heh, this is because i fixed a quoting bug :)

added an extra check to make sure profiledbootstrap isnt attempted with gcc-3.3.x compilers

Well, the emerge process doesn't continue, it halts there.
Comment 5 hodak 2005-01-15 01:46:22 UTC
How is this bug resolved? Has the ebuild been changed? Will it work if I do sync now?
Comment 6 Casper Gasper 2005-01-16 15:29:25 UTC
I had this problem, but it's working for me now.

I am getting this problem too, having synced about 5 minutes ago
