I gave this only a brief test but haven't been able to reproduce.

I do see ccache and distcc in FEATURES though, related?

In fact, it doesn't compile anymore even when I downgrade icu to dev-libs/icu-67.1
So no relation with icu update (just that icu update requires to re-emerge samba)

You're right, with FEATURES="-distcc" it works.
