Description Kris Kerwin 2004-12-22 13:57:15 UTC
When running a large emerge operation with the --fetchonly option, emerge
opens seperate ftp sessions for each distfile to be downloaded. I experience
long pauses each time the session logs in as anonymous.

Since most of Gentoo's distfiles are stored on ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu, opening
one session to download all of the distfiles to be installed, rather than
separate sessions for individual distfiles would speed up the process greatly.

Thanks in advance!

Using a different mirror is another method for the moment...
What you want is parallelized behaviour in portage (whether fetching, merging or others)... So... this is marked later, cause it's something cvs is aiming for.

Why do I think that this should be done with FETCHCOMMAND_FTP ...
