Other sources reveal that hp-plugin should run fine on arm64 eg. https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=hplip-plugin . Please keyword for arm64 in Gentoo, thanks! I should be able to test if required.

Created attachment 722095 [details, diff] Add arm64 support to ebuild I can confirm that hplip-plugin does work on arm64, with a minor tweak to the .ebuild (in addition to the keyword change, see attachment)
hplip has the keyword now so only hplip-plugin needs the keyword. I've made the necessary change to the ebuild in 3.21.6. I've also masked the orblite USE flag on non-amd64/x86 arches.
