Hi,
as reported by Arch guys, the 5.8.8 Linux kernel release fails recognizing software RAID volumes (in my case an Intel Rapid Storage controller). So, if the boot partition is in a RAID volume the boot process hangs and then fails, showing only the kernel rescue schell.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build the 5.8.8 kernel and install it
2. Reboot
3. Hangs...

Can you apply this to kernel 5.8.9 and let me know if it fixes your problem ?

Can you try vanilla-5.8.10 or gentoo-sources-5.8.10? This patch is included.

Sorry, I was sure I've sent my answer... but this is not. Anyway, kernel 5.8.9 was not affected.
