This is an auto-filled bug because sys-apps/grep fails tests. The issue was originally discovered on arm64, but it may be reproducible on other arches as well. If you think that a different summary clarifies the issue better, feel free to change it. Attached build log and emerge --info.

Please add system information (emerge --info) and make sure you tested against latest stable glibc.

I had a theory when I skimmed test-suite.log earlier, but now I've googled, I'm satisfied this isn't a problem anymore. See: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grep/2017-11/msg00014.html Until recently, jit was masked for arm64, but it's now available (since this bug was filed). So I think we're actually good here.
