Description Roman 2004-11-20 03:34:49 UTC
when i do portage sync it writtes :

!!! 'str' object has no attribute 'insert'
!!! 'rm -Rf /usr/portage/profiles; emerge sync' may fix this.
If it does
!!! not then please report this to bugs.gentoo.org and, if pos
sible, a dev
!!! on #gentoo (irc.freenode.org)

its happened when my portage was broken cos the proccess stoped in the middle of dep-update, so i ran the README.RESCUE which bring me to the message above.
or every other thing that i do the the portage, i see the message above

Change back to a non cascaded profile (eg, back to what you had), upgrade portage, then change back to the profile you had.

Comment 3 Roman 2004-11-20 05:06:11 UTC
the problems shows up only when it do cache, its looks so

example : the end of "emerge sync" output

Number of files: 100781
Number of files transferred: 663
Total file size: 78352820 bytes
Total transferred file size: 849415 bytes
Literal data: 849415 bytes
Matched data: 0 bytes
File list size: 2208733
Total bytes written: 13445
Total bytes read: 3088381

wrote 13445 bytes read 3088381 bytes 13227.40 bytes/sec
total size is 78352820 speedup is 25.26

>>> Updating Portage cache...  ...done!
