I just upgraded to scilab 3.0 and now I can't write expressions like
4^2   I have to write 4*4 instead.
When I try to write  4^2  I just get "4 2"  and a parse error when I try to evaluate it.

What is wrong?

I'm using Xorg, and scilab seems to be using the font /usr/share/fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera/Vera.ttf  and this is a problem in the game freelords also (bug #71944).
I don't know if this is of any help.
