I think that this began happening after I upgraded kernel to 2.6.9-r1 or xorg to 6.8.0-r1... I'm not exactly sure about that. However, the problem occurs even if X server is down. The problem is that switching between tty's (alt+f1, alt+f2) became extremely slow - it takes about one or two seconds. Although I know it's a minor issue, it's very annoying :( Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Are you using a framebuffer? fbsplash?
I use the vesafb-tng driver from kernel 2.6.9
I've noticed, that if xorg doesn't start after booting the system, console switching is ok. However, after running X server (/etc/init.d/xdm start), the problem starts to occur. Turning xdm off doesn't help either... I have to reboot the system.
Michal has attempted to fix this bug.. could someone test it? You'll need to grab 2.6.10-rc1, patch it with a nightly -bk patch and then apply the vesafb-tng for 2.6.10-rc1-bk11 from his site: http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock If it works, maybe we can backport it to fix up 2.6.9
Actually, it might be easier to just emerge the latest development-sources (2.6.10-rc1) and then patch it with http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/vesafb-tng/archive/vesafb-tng-0.9-rc5-2.6.10-rc1.patch :)
Is this still a problem with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10?
All problems related to slow console switching should be fixed in g-d-s-2.6.10-r5. Please comment/reopen if they are not.
