Description Joe Breuer 2019-07-11 16:29:24 UTC
On my main default/linux/amd64/17.1/desktop/plasma/systemd installation, I observe the following behavior:

1. I have a tab in Chromium that was playing back media (eg YouTube). That media is paused.
2. I suspend the system, using KDE's system menu. In the split second the system takes to suspend, I can see and hear that media playback resuming.
3. At some later time, I resume the system & the media that was originally paused immediately continues playing, long before I can log on or use the lock screen media controls. When they eventually show up, they do correctly refer to the browser tab playing media (somewhat to my surprise when that first happened to me).

The issue is exacerbated by bug 678420.

This bug only occurs with Chromium, at least ebuilds chromium-75.0.3770.90 and chromium-73.0.3683.86. It specifically does not occur with media-sound/clementine-1.3.1_p20190127 paused on media.

In that "dead period" when media playback has resumed, before the lock screen media controls are usable, the volume and mute softkeys don't yet work. This is laptop hardware with no other means to adjust volume of the built-in speakers.

I'll leave the effect of opening my laptop with a long-forgotten chromium tab in a public library to your imagination. Let's just say my taste in music is not limited to "soft & pleasant" from a mainstream perspective.

Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2019-07-11 22:18:32 UTC
Are you able to reproduce the issue using www-client/google-chrome?
Comment 3 Joe Breuer 2019-07-12 11:29:50 UTC
Can confirm, www-client/google-chrome-75.0.3770.100 behaves exactly the same. Audio resumes playing just when the suspend procedure starts.
