I tried to use genkernel to build 5.1.6 after switching to gold, and I got a relocation error.

This is a regression, I just confirmed that gentoo-sources-5.1.5 builds fine.

I can confirm this issue with a fresh build.

The problem goes away when reverting the commit from comment 4, or switching to ld.bfd
