net-analyzer/net-snmp-5.7.3-r5 init script refers /var/run:

/etc/init.d/snmpd:SNMPD_PIDFILE="${SNMPD_PIDFILE:-/var/run/snmpd.pid}"
/etc/init.d/snmptrapd:SNMPTRAPD_PIDFILE="${SNMPTRAPD_PIDFILE:-/var/run/snmptrapd.pid}"
