Today gui-apps/swaybg was updated from 9999 to 1.0.  It is marked as conflicting with gui-wm/sway.  If you disable the swaybg flag in gui-wm/sway, swaybg is not pulled in by emerging sway, but still conflicts with it if emerged individually. If you enable the flag when emerging sway it pulls swaybg in, but blocks sway.

sudo emerge -av sway
