Description sue cooper 2004-10-07 10:00:53 UTC
Just completed a stage 1 install. When I trued to emerge cups, I got this error:

"FATAL ERROR: Autoconf version 2.50 or higher is required for this script"

Of course autoconf-2.59-r4 is installed, and re-emerging autoconf didn't change anything. Everything else has compiled normally, including emerging kde with USE="-cups"

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. install gentoo
2. emerge cups
3.

Actual Results:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-print/cups-1.1.20-r3 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) cups-1.1.20-source.tar.bz2
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking cups-1.1.20-source.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/cups-1.1.20-r3/work
 * Applying disable-strip.patch...                                        [ ok ]
 * Applying cups-1.1.20-str633.patch...                                   [ ok ]
 * Applying cups-1.1.20-zero-len-udp-dos.patch...                         [ ok ]
 * Applying str920.patch...                                               [ ok ]
FATAL ERROR: Autoconf version 2.50 or higher is required for this script

!!! ERROR: net-print/cups-1.1.20-r3 failed.
!!! Function src_unpack, Line 36, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

Expected Results:
cups compiles

Comment 1 Craig Bradney 2004-10-07 15:02:19 UTC
same here.. WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5=1 emerge cups will make it happen..
Comment 2 Craig Bradney 2004-10-07 16:16:02 UTC
same with libungif
Comment 3 sue cooper 2004-10-08 02:10:43 UTC
same problem with gnome-spell. WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5=1 works with all three for me too - thanks.

Add bug 66683 (libungif) to that list.
Comment 6 Danny 2004-10-09 13:22:12 UTC
I guess libungif doesn't go to printing team, at first I thought it was the start of a list of autoconf troubled ebuilds. I can't find a general bug for this, is this something that will have to be worked out for each ebuild, or a bigger problem I should open a bug for?
