Description Rob McMullen 2002-02-11 22:08:00 UTC
Xmbdfed is a raster based font editor for X11 non-scalable (BDF) fonts and Linux
console (PSF) fonts. It can import fonts from a variety of sources, including
True Type and Windoze fonts, by rasterizing them to a specified font width.

Homepage at http://clr.nmsu.edu/~mleisher/xmbdfed.html

Seems like it might belong in x11-misc/xmbdfed or app-misc/xmbdfed; probably not
in app-editors, since this isn't an editor in the sense of everything else in
app-editors. :)

I've included an ebuild script and a diff file. The diff includes two fixes:
1) the xmbdfed source expects freetype in a different location, so I've
corrected it for the Gentoo install
2) a patch distributed by the xmbdfed author but not yet integrated into a
numbered release.

Comment 3 Rob McMullen 2002-03-15 21:14:10 UTC
Just discovered an error in my ebuild. xmbdfed depends on freetype1, not
freetype2, so the dependency line should read

=media-libs/freetype-1.3.1-r3

rather than

>=media-libs/freetype-2.0.5

Perhaps it would be better to remove freetype support from this program until
the author converts to freetype2. Freetype support isn't that much of a big
deal here, since xmbdfed can import server fonts. It can let the server do the
rasterization instead of doing it itself.

I'm attaching a new ebuild that has both versions: 4.5 uses freetype1, and
4.5-r1 doesn't use freetype at all.

Creating attachments doesn't seem to work right now, so here's the tar:

-r1 is the version that doesn't include freetype 1.3.1. When you get around to
checking out this package, feel free to include whichever version. I think that
the non-freetype is probably better, until the author supports freetype2.
