According to source code https://github.com/dae/anki/blame/bb6844716cf15dc0d9e5eeed085d37c82d49fa74/anki/sound.py#L84 anki supports mpv now, so it can depend on either mpv or mplayer when merged with sound USE flag. Really, mpv is more in trend now.
