After upgrading qt (qt-5.9.4 just stabilized), dolphin (stable 17.08.3) presents a bug. The folder view is not anymore synchronized to the same as the folder currently shown in the folder content.

To be more specific: 1. Make sure the folder panel is visible, then browse to some place. 2a. in the contents view, open a subfolder; or 2b. Using the URL bar, edit the directory to choose another folder; or 2c. Open the console view (F4) and cd to another folder. 3. See that dolphin is unable to expand the tree to update the folder panel. If the update does not involve expanding the tree (folder was already visible in the tree), then the update is correctly performed.
Bug is not present after upgrading kde to ~arch : kde-frameworks 5.44.0 (from 5.43.0), kde-apps 17.12.3 (from 17.08), kde-plasma 5.12.13 (from 5.11.5).
Since you were the only reporter of this bug we can not establish the real fix. But I am going to assume this was fixed by 17.12.3 stabilisation. Plasma is not involved here.
