Description Peter Colijn 2004-09-21 22:13:30 UTC
Under xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1, totem-0.99.15.1 will not run (xine backend). Upon startup, it just hangs, before displaying a window.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. On a ~x86 system, emerge xorg-x11 and totem.
2. Start totem.

Actual Results:
Totem hangs, before displaying a window.

Expected Results:
Totem should start up as normal, and display its window.

See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111349 for details. The test
program in that bug also fails to return on xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1. The patch
attached in that bug is in the xorg-x11 patches tarball, but does not seem to be
applied, since these issues remain.
Comment 1 Peter Colijn 2004-09-21 22:15:18 UTC
Also note that at least one other person has experienced this: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=214433
Comment 2 Peter Colijn 2004-09-21 22:45:28 UTC
Also, http://bugs.xfree86.org/attachment.cgi?id=391 looks to be a better patch, included by Mandrake and (I think) RedHat. Perhaps we should consider using that instead.
Comment 3 Peter Colijn 2004-09-26 12:53:10 UTC
Actually, that patch is already applied upstream. Simply removing the other one fixes it so Totem works again. I'll attach a new ebuild, but all I did was rename it to -r2 and patch_exclude 0155.

New ebuild for xorg-x11 that fixes Totem

Only difference from -r1 is to patch_exclude patch # 0155.
Comment 5 Peter Colijn 2004-10-05 16:42:51 UTC
Bit of a ping here. Is this an acceptable fix that can go into portage?
Comment 6 Joe McCann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-08 05:43:18 UTC
x issue
Comment 7 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-08 08:32:57 UTC
For reference, bug #64929 is why that patch was added. If an alternate solution's been committed upstream, I'll remove it.
Comment 8 Peter Colijn 2004-11-08 13:25:02 UTC
Um, this is bug 64929. Did you mean another bug?
Comment 9 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-08 14:06:52 UTC
Yeah, my bad. bug #21336

Comment 10 Peter Colijn 2004-11-08 18:13:53 UTC
Ah, right. Please see my comment above about http://bugs.xfree86.org/attachment.cgi?id=391. The patch for that bug is already in xorg, and it is a better fix for the problem. You can read http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260 for the details, and see that http://bugs.xfree86.org/attachment.cgi?id=391 is a fix to the same problem, that's already included in the latest xorg sources.

Thanks!
Comment 11 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-16 22:01:45 UTC
Added to 6.8.0-r2 in patchset 0.2.7.
Comment 12 Ed Catmur 2004-11-19 15:35:06 UTC
This is regressed in xorg-x11-6.8.0-r3, btw.

I assume this is because it is a lower patch version than -r2, so -r4 will be OK again.
Comment 13 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-19 22:27:44 UTC
It's not a regression. -r3 is _purely_ a security bump from -r1, nothing more, nothing less. Things are acting perfectly as expected. -r4 should work fine.

The ChangeLog says this.

  17 Nov 2004; Donnie Berkholz <spyderous@gentoo.org>;
  +xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4.ebuild:
Add xpm-secfix-thomas.diff. This is a continuation of the hard-masked 6.8.0-r2.
