Description Thomas Stein 2017-11-26 19:47:23 UTC
Hello Devs.

exim-4,89 does not build on a glibc-2.26 system. Error message:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/6.4.0/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lnsl

libnsl seems to be part of glibc.

equery b /usr/lib/libnsl.a
sys-libs/glibc-2.25-r9 (/usr/lib64/libnsl.a)

On the glibc-2.26 system there is no libnsl.a.

"nis" useflag is disabled too.

thanks and cheers

Reproducible: Always

Uahh. Fixed with:

ln -s /lib64/libnsl-2.26.so /lib64/libnsl.so

So i guess it's a minor glitch which the glibc ebuild could take care of.

thanks and cheers
Comment 2 Tobias Klausmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-11-30 12:10:00 UTC
Same here, this is not quite as obvious if net-libs/libnsl is installed on the system, of course.
Comment 3 William T Wilson 2017-12-03 04:05:03 UTC
I think this is still real, although it might not be exim's fault. Since glibc split libnsl out of the regular glibc package, libnsl is no longer available in the system set. So either the packages that depend on it need to declare the dependency, or gentoo needs to put it separately in the system set. Either way it's not correct now!
Comment 4 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2017-12-07 09:10:59 UTC
so, should exim's ebuild just add a dep on virtual/libnsl?

Just depend unconditionally on net-libs/libnsl (it's a dummy for old glibc).

Note, you may also need libtirpc at some point...
