I have similar error ... testing the samba-4.7.1 ebuild, it seems that it does build and link the missing libdnsserver-common-samba4.so successfully, but does not install this library in the final image. However, I was able to get this to install properly with the following USE flags: acl addc addns ads client cups gnutls ldap Thus I have # emerge -vp samba These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! I did rm -r /usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/samba emerge -1 net-fs/samba and then the problem was gone here

The files get built for both ABIs on an amd64 multilib, but not installed for either. Activating the addns USE flag and it's dependencies solved this issue for me.

I was thinking, gpg USE flag is dependant on addns USE flag, but I was wrong, it isn't. I compiled using the following: $ emerge -pqv =net-fs/samba-4.8.6 [ebuild R ] net-fs/samba-4.8.6 USE="acl addc addns client fam gnutls gpg pam python syslog system-mitkrb5 systemd winbind -ads -ceph -cluster -cups -debug (-dmapi) -iprint -ldap -quota (-selinux) (-system-heimdal) -test -zeroconf" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7" which installed the libdnsserver-common-samba4.so lib.

Now this works. Still, I think it is a bug. I have activated some use flags and installed some packages which I don't need.
