There's a new version for athcool available.  The ChangeLog says:
| I received a bug report that hard disk was massively corrupted when tried athcool on ASUS L3350M (SiS 740 based laptop). 

I don't know if the new version contains a security check to avoid this data corruption.

Updated ebuild (with a small change) follows.

This is more or less the ebuild for 0.3.7 but I added a dodoc invocation so
that the README etc. gets installed.
