I've been told that the reason the ebuild doesn't fetch the file on its own is that netscape have beenn known to update the file without changing the filename, which of course would make all our digests invalid. I am investigating & considernig the options.

The macromedia site says the tarball was released (not last changed) in Jan 2001.
The README in the archive says Feb 2001.
The README in the archive mirrored on has Aug 1999. This is in fact flash4 not 5.
Explains the digest problems.
What I'm probably going to do is this: create a new copy of the archive on ibiblio called
flash_linux-<date or version>.tgz and put ibiblio itself (nothing else) in SRC_URI.
