I run a small, private server using this daemon and would like to keep it up-to-date; might as well upstream that work.

You are more than welcome to, I recommend sending a PR to add yourself to metadata (see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Proxy_Maintainers/User_Guide) and it's yours.
