When fbgs is called on a pdf (or postscript) document, it converts the document to images, and calls fbi on the images. However, it creates tiff images, and checks for jpg images. When it doesn't find any jpg images, it quits. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Create a pdf (or postscript document) 2. fbgs document.pdf 3. what package does fbgs belong to?
I didn't mention that, did I? Doh! It's part of media-gfx/fbi.

is this still an issue with the current fbi version?
I originally submitted the bug, but I've reinstalled everything since then, and no longer use framebuffer. So I can't say if it's fixed or not.
It is still an issue. Please commit the fix from bug #67057. (Btw, considering the existence of media-gfx/fbida, should media-gfx/fbi be maintained at all?)
as those are just different versions of one program they should be moved to one package, spock?
media-gfx/fbi should be fixed now. media-gfx/fbida does indeed provide a newer version of the fbi program (along a bunch of other small and handy apps). I'd be happy to remove media-gfx/fbi from the tree as soon as media-gfx/fbida gets marked stable on all arches for which fbi is available.
